Firstly

9 years before I started this “new revised” website, I started a website with a different provider. It wasn’t because I knew what I wanted to do with it or was ready to be “publishing” things, though I did have the vague thought that I wanted to be writing and I wanted to be able to post the writing somewhere.

And there was a training on “how to set up your website in 20 minutes”. I had 20 minutes. Though it took more like an hour because there were problems with a couple of aspects. Of course.

My writing journey started long ago (doesn’t it always?) but has never been of the “I want to be a writer” variety. Don’t get me wrong - I’ve always wanted to write mysteries. I have always thought it would be great to be able to write the things I most love to read. But I’ve always known that I had the wrong kind of imagination to be able to do that. So, wish and dream, perhaps, but never really an aspiration.

Ironically the first two things I started to write with intent, that may even be published someday, are novels. Novels based on dreams I had. Both are “what if” branches of my life and completely different but I don’t think either of them is a mystery. One is a “coming of age” and the other is sci-fi, though maybe with a mystery element to it. I’ll let you know if I ever work more intensely on them.

My interest in a blog started when a friend asked why I wasn’t doing it - instead of attempting to write letters to a bunch of different people (and failing miserably at it). Seemed much more “high falutin” than I thought of myself at the time, and even now. Why would I think that I have anything to say that others would want to read? And even more, why would anyone want to make the effort to go online and read it? Of course, that’s much easier now than it was all those years ago. Not as much effort. All those inboxes and notifications.

It’s taken more than 20 years to decide that it doesn’t really matter. If I write it and some people want to read it, then maybe it’s a God thing. There are so many voices that seem to think they do have something to say, and they really don’t, that one more that maybe does have something to say to some people might help balance it a bit.

I don’t think that what I have to say will mean anything to everyone or challenge everyone. And the people that say you have to picture your reader and write to them, are not aspies - I can’t really picture anything, so that’s also stopped me for a few years.

If you are here and anything I write challenges you or makes you look into something a little more, then God is working through me and what more could I ask?
