Why

Why start a blog?

I realized the other day that I originally thought about blogging in order to write to a bunch of people in one shot and that while I am still kind of thinking that, I have taken the joy out of it by thinking it needs to be meaningful and deep every time I write.

Of course, I would hope that others would think that, but it’s rather arrogant to think that everything I say is worthwhile and that “everyone” should want to read it and learn from it. Which is also something that has stopped me for a lot of years. Does everyone having value and worth mean that everyone is equally worth listening to? I rather think not. Just because someone has a platform… Yeah. We still need to evaluate what people say.

And then, most of the time, people hear significance or learn from the things that are “throwaway” comments or from something that had nothing to do with the main point I was trying to make. Seriously, most people don’t want to know what is really going on in my head. And is that really a problem? Do I want to know what’s going on in the head of everyone else? I mean, sometimes I’m curious and do want to know. But most of the time a surface understanding is quite sufficient.

And I quite often go off in tangents from some central thought when I’m writing to other people. So, which is the main idea and which are the tangents? How can I know? Does it matter?
